Marrakech Airport at a glance

Marrakech-Menara Airport (RAK) lies on the edge of the city. You have three realistic ways in: the airport bus, a taxi from the rank, or a transfer booked in advance, often through your riad or hotel. The ride to the Medina takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes by car, depending on traffic, according to a transfer provider.

Prices and timetables change, and sources disagree on some of them, so treat the figures on this page as published guidance and confirm them before you travel. Settle the fare before the taxi moves.

Bus 19 from Marrakech Airport

The regional tourism council lists bus 19 at 30 MAD per trip, about every 20 minutes between 06:00 and 21:30. Another guide gives a one-way ticket of 30 MAD and a return of 50 MAD, and a third reports different first and last departures. The bus operator changed on 14 December 2025, when Supratours took over from ALSA, and fare changes were announced at the time. Check the current timetable and fare at the stop.

One report describes the route as running from the airport through Hivernage, past the train station, through Guéliz and Bab Doukkala to Arset El Bilk near Jemaa el-Fna, taking about 30 to 45 minutes. The route may have changed with the new operator, so confirm where the bus stops before you plan your arrival around it.

Taxi and transfer from the airport

The regional tourism council lists 70 MAD by day and 100 MAD at night for a taxi between the airport and the centre. A transfer provider describes higher figures from earlier years, so fares quoted in different places do not match. Agree the price before you get in, and ask whether it covers luggage and the whole ride.

A pre-booked transfer removes the negotiation. Your riad or hotel can often arrange one. Send them your flight number and ask where the driver will meet you. If you prefer a taxi, confirm the fare with the driver before you leave the kerb.

A quiet lane (derb) in the medina of Marrakech

The last stretch to your riad

Many Medina riads cannot be reached by car, because the lanes are too narrow. The car then stops at a drop-off point and you walk the rest. Ask your riad where that point is and whether a porter will meet you with a cart. A street address is not always a drivable front door. Our guide on where to stay in Marrakech lists what to ask before you book, and the Medina guide explains how to find your way once you are in.

If you arrive at night, ask the riad to meet you at the drop-off point. It is easier than searching lanes in the dark with luggage.

Terminals, money and onward travel

  • Terminal: check your booking or your airline for the terminal. Do not assume where your flight arrives or leaves.
  • Cash: the currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD). Larger businesses sometimes take cards, but smaller ones often need cash, so keep some on you for the taxi.
  • Taking dirhams out: the Office des Changes allows travellers up to 2,000 MAD in banknotes. At a port or airport counter, non-residents can also reconvert up to 2,000 MAD per passport against an outbound boarding pass or ticket.
  • Coast trips: Essaouira is about 190 km (2.5 to 3 hours) away, and the Agadir area about 258 km (3 hours). Supratours and CTM serve longer routes, so check the station and timetable for your date.
